Rare White Record Teddy
|
Extremely rare WHITE Steiff Record Teddy c1913 - we have never had the pleasure of offering a white example for sale before!
Teddy has FF button in ear, boot button eyes, brown stitched nose, and claws (lacks mouth stitching), swivel head and jointed limbs, in seated position on a four wheeled chassis with bellows fixed to the rear axle. There is overall wear to the mohair, scuffing to the wheels, but he remains in strong condition and measures 9" wheel to wheel.
The Record animals were first launched in 1912 with a monkey named Record Peter. A variety of animals were produced in the series, the most desireable of all being the teddy bear, introduced in 1913.
When pulled, the Record animals moved backwards and forwards, creating the appearance of steering themselves. This example does still work if you press down on the chassis whilst pulling. Please enquire for more photographs.
